Questions
What families ask first
How old does a student have to be?
Our youngest group is for ages 4 to 6. Older children join the group for their age and belt, and teens and adults have their own evening and Saturday classes.
Can I watch a class?
Yes. Parents sit on the bench by the window during kids' classes. On the day of a belt test we ask watchers to stay quiet and keep phones on silent.
What do we wear to a first class?
A plain t-shirt and loose trousers, no jewelry, hair tied back. Everyone trains barefoot on the mat. A uniform and belt come with joining.
What is a class like?
Students bow in, warm up, practice kicks and blocks, work on a pattern and then take turns on pads with a partner. Every class ends with a bow out.
How does the after-school lane work?
Children arrive between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., settle at the bench by the door and join the 3:30 or 4:30 class for their age. A parent or an adult on the pickup list collects them at the door.
Can adults and children train together?
Teens and adults share the evening and Saturday classes. On Friday evening a family class lets a parent and child train side by side.
Do we need to be fit or flexible?
No. Every class starts with a warm-up, and every student moves at their own pace.
How do belts work?
Each color brings a few new skills. A student tests when the instructor sees them, and stripes on the belt mark the steps inside each color.
How does tuition work, and how do we stop?
Tuition depends on the age group, the classes a week and the program. Enrollment runs month to month: tell us in writing at least 30 days ahead, and ask us about pausing for travel or illness.
What if we miss a class?
Missed classes can be made up in another group at the same level during the same session. Ask at the front desk and we will find a time.
Still have a question?
Write to the front desk, or come to a class and ask in person.
